MICROCHANNELING

Microchanneling is a collagen induction therapy that stimulates the body to naturally boost collagen and elastin production while also increasing the skin's cellular turnover rate. Applying a chemical peel a few weeks before a microneedling session can prepare the skin by removing dead skin cells from its surface layers. As a result, during microneedling, the device can penetrate the skin more effectively, ensuring optimal results.

DERMAPLANE

Prior to any chemical peel treatment, dermaplaning is first completed to kick off any superficial dry skin layers that are easily removable. Dermaplaning involves using a specialized tool to gently exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin cells and peach fuzz. Combining dermaplaning with a chemical peel can help the peel penetrate more effectively and improve skin texture, resulting in a smoother and more even complexion.

What You Should Know

Before Treatment

  • Please arrive at the office without makeup on, and with a clean (for men a clean shaven) face.

  • Wait at least 6 months Accutane/Isotretinoin use before your peel.

  • Avoid any Waxing, Depilatory creams, Electrolysis, or Laser Hair Removal in the area 7 days prior to your treatment.

  • Do NOT use Retin-A, Renova, Differin, Tazorac or any products containing Retinol (Vitamin A), Alpha-Hydrox Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, or Benzoyl Peroxide; any exfoliating products or procedures that may be drying or irritating.

  • If you are prone to herpes simplex outbreaks, such as cold sores, consult your provider on ways to treat prior, or discuss whether the procedure is appropriate for you.

  • If your face or treatment area has irritated skin (sun burn, open wounds, wars, sores, excessively sensitive skin) the day preceding your appointment, please contact our office before your appointment.

  • Chemical peels are contraindicated in patients with a history of recent chemotherapy or radiation therapy; allergies to salicylates like aspirin, phenol or hydroquinone allergy; rashes, or skin reactions; vitiligo, autoimmune disease (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, multiple sclerosis), liver condition, or any condition that may weaken their immune system; and pregnancy or breast feeding.

After Treatment

  • You will be provided with a post peel kit and specific application instructions.

  • Skin may be tight and more red than usual.

  • The peel is self-neutralizing; do not wash off or apply any other products for at least 4 hours.

  • Avoid use of topical products containing AHAs, Retinols, Vitamin A, or any type of exfoliant until the peeling process is complete.

  • Strictly avoid direct sun exposure for at least one week. Apply VI Peel SPF 50+

  • Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours after the procedure.

  • Do not exfoliate or do IPL, laser, microchanneling, microdermabrasion, or facial for at least 2 weeks.

  • Avoid hot water, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, strenuous exercise, or excessive perspiration beginning the day of the peel and throughout the entire peel.

  • DO NOT PICK OR PULL THE SKIN. Allow the skin to peel at is own pace. (Premature peeling of the skin may develop into post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.)

It is recommended to do a follow-up treatment in about 4-6 weeks.

Is there any downtime or side effects associated with VI Peel?

Minimal downtime is expected, with potential side effects including mild redness or peeling, which subsides shortly after the treatment.

VI Peels are known to be safe and effective for virtually all skin types, but those with more sensitive skin may experience itchiness, dryness, stringing, and/or redness after the peel. If you’re concerned about potential side effects, chat with your provider before receiving your peel so they can best advise you.

What can I expect during the treatment?

The procedure involves the application of the VI Peel solution, which may cause a mild tingling sensation. The entire process is relatively quick and comfortable.

How long will I peel?

In general, you can expect to start peeling on or around day three and peel for about three to four days afterward. Each person’s peeling experience is a little different, and some may peel for more or fewer days, depending on the condition of the skin. If this is your first VI Peel, it’s also normal to peel for a longer period of time.
